Delma’s Oceanmaster Lume brings full lume visibility to the line
Jason Lee- Delma releases an array of dial colours for its Oceanmaster collection to allow optimal visibility in every condition.
- The full lumed dial first debuted in partnership with Oliver Heer Ocean Racing and is now available in four new colourways.
- The utilitarian 44mm stainless steel case features mixed finishings and is water-resistant to 500 meters.
Since the Oceanmaster’s 2017 debut—born from Delma’s partnership with the NY Vendée—the collection has framed sailing tools and stories within a robust dive watch platform. Special editions have ranged from the Antarctica to the Tide and Oliver Heer Ocean Racing models, each using nautical instrumentation as its organising principle. The new Oceanmaster Lume stays firmly within that brief but shifts the emphasis to visibility: the entire dial is luminous, conceived to make the watch’s information architecture legible when light is scarce and conditions are moving fast.
The concept is simple enough, but its execution is specific. Delma offers the fully luminous dial in four tones—Dark Blue, Dark Green, Dark Orange, and Dark Yellow—so owners can pick a palette without giving up the core function. On the dial, the familiar tactical planner and points‑of‑sail references remain, presenting the sailing‑centric layout that has defined the Oceanmaster since launch. A date complication is included at 6 o’clock, keeping the everyday‑wear brief intact. Night‑time legibility is handled with a dual‑lume approach: applied indexes use Super‑LumiNova BGW9, the hour and minute hands are C3, and the red central seconds gets a C3 tip.
Delma ties the Lume’s idea back to real‑world testing. The fully luminous dial made its debut in partnership with Oliver Heer Ocean Racing and accompanied skipper Oliver Heer during his 2024 Vendée Globe campaign—exactly the kind of environment where extended darkness, fatigue, and spray are a fact of life. Whatever one’s proximity to offshore racing, the message is clear: the brand wants the Oceanmaster to function as an instrument first, with styling following from that purpose.
Hardware is familiar to anyone who has handled recent Oceanmasters. The case is 316L stainless steel in a cushion form, measuring 44 mm in diameter and 13.8 mm in thickness. Lug spacing is a broad 24 mm, and the lug‑to‑lug distance is 51 mm. A sapphire crystal with anti‑reflective coating tops the watch, and a transparent caseback makes an appearance.
Functionally, the Lume retains the Oceanmaster’s nautical toolset on the outside as well as the inside. A stainless‑steel unidirectional nautical bezel provides the primary timing interface, while a screw‑down crown with prominent guards secures the casework. Water‑resistance is rated to an impressive-for-the-price 500m. The pairing of an instrument‑forward dial with a depth rating that ventures far beyond the cockpit is part of the Oceanmaster’s personality: a sailing watch built on a diver’s chassis.
Powering the watch is the automatic Sellita SW200‑1. It beats at 4 Hz with 26 jewels and offers a 41‑hour power reserve. The bracelet follows the Oceanmaster template as well. It’s a stainless‑steel three‑link design with brushed outer links and polished inner links, secured by a deployant clasp with pushers. As delivered, the setup underscores the tool‑watch intent on the wrist.
Within the wider Oceanmaster storyline, the Lume reads as a logical extension rather than a radical pivot. Oceanmaster has always been a platform for Delma to foreground utility—first with the planner and points‑of‑sail graphics, then with models with environmental and racing narratives. The Lume doubles down on legibility as a theme by turning the entire dial into the light source and then creating an information hierarchy with different Super‑LumiNova grades. It’s a simple shift with clear intent, and it’s executed with consistency across the four colourways.
